Prof. Sheng Dai is a Corporate Fellow and Section Head of Separations and Polymer Chemistry in the Chemical Sciences Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), and Professor of Chemistry at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. An internationally recognized leader in functional materials, he focuses his research on ionic liquids, porous materials, and nanomaterials for separation science, energy storage, catalysis, and sustainable chemical processes. He was named a U.S. Department of Energy Distinguished Scientist Fellow in 2022 for his pioneering contributions to functional materials. A Fellow of the Materials Research Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Prof. Dai has received numerous prestigious honors, including the ACS Award in Separation Science and Technology, the Max Bredig Award for Ionic Liquids and Molten Salts, the Battelle Distinguished Inventor Award, and multiple R&D 100 Awards.
