Dongping Lu

Dr. Dongping Lu is a Chief Scientist, Project Manager, and Team Leader at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), where he leads the Battery Materials Research Team and directs multiple energy-storage research programs supported by the U.S. Department of Energy and industry partners. His research focuses on advanced battery technologies, including all-solid-state batteries, lithium–sulfur batteries, and lithium-ion batteries, with expertise spanning battery materials, electrolytes, cell design, and performance optimization. Dr. Lu has made significant contributions to the development of high-energy-density energy-storage systems, fast-charging technologies, and battery failure analysis. He earned his Ph.D. from Xiamen University and completed postdoctoral research at Penn State, where he worked on magnesium and lithium battery technologies for grid-scale energy storage.
