Jie Xiao

Prof. Jie Xiao is the Boeing Martin Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington (UW) and an internationally recognized expert in electrochemical energy storage. Her research focuses on both the fundamental science and practical applications of energy storage materials and systems to enhance grid resilience, develop new sensors, and support AI data centers. She has been a Battelle Fellow at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) since 2022 and a PNNL-UW Distinguished Faculty Fellow since 2020. Prior to joining UW Mechanical Engineering in Autumn 2024, she led the Battery Materials & Systems Group at PNNL. Through her influential publications, patents, and leadership in large-scale research initiatives, Dr. Xiao has made significant contributions to the advancement of high-performance, safe, and sustainable energy-storage technologies.
